Lifesaving

It is now more than ever the case that community service and growth is vital to the development of the community. We as a club not only represent a community service in terms of our patrolling of the beach but also form a strong link in relation to the community advocacy and growth. Every member who actively involves themselves in patrolling the beach is servicing the community in a myriad of ways.

The lifesaving section of Maroubra SLSC has gone from strength to strength over the past decade and now boosts one of the strongest lifesaving sections in the state. This has been seen through the clubs strong development of its members as well as the representation of members through Branch, State and Australian Awards of Excellence.

Maroubra SLSC has identified our youth of the club as a priority and will take efforts to develop them through member development camps as well internal activities aimed at growing the leadership and potential of our younger members who will go on to take over the surf club management one day.

The patrolling section of the club is now up to 300 members. This has shown the great growth in our membership due to the strong leadership and training provided through the club. The training section represents a vital link in the lifesaving chain due to their ability to prepare our lifesavers for the beach as well as up-skill existing members with greater training in order to provide a better service to the community.

Changes to the Club this year include:

This year will see all SRC members not only participate in their rostered patrols but also contribute to water safety for the nippers. This is designed to provide a more active role for SRC members in the club and allow them to see some of the various other processes that the club is involved in.

New equipment may be seen on the beach this year due to the great efforts of our management and our wonderful sponsors from the Local CDSE (Community Development & Support Scheme). This season we will be well equipped to manage all situations thanks to a IRB, a Defib, soft pack oxy-viva, spinal equipment  & rescue manikin for training purposes.

This year once again the club has been asked to help out other clubs in our branch as well as other clubs in the Illawarra district. We will be patrolling at Garie in the Royal National Park, as well as extending our service down the coast to help out Coalcliffe SLSC & Scarborough-Wombarra SLSC. Please find the dates below. If you are interested in coming along to any of these patrols just send an email through to the club or give Trent a call on 0417 880 203.

I encourage that all members when finding a substitute for any patrol that you ensure a patrol contract is signed by both parties and placed under the office door. This will protect your attendance record if your substitute does not turn up. These contracts are available outside the office. Once completed simply give to your patrol captain or slide under the office door.
