Maroubra SLSC introduce children to the competitive side of surf lifesaving as a means of developing, improving and maintaining their surf life saving skills and physical fitness. 

Maroubra SLSC has a rich history in Surf Sports with many of our members having represented at state and national levels, including Olympics, World Championships and Commonwealth Games.


The objectives for our Surf Sports Program is to:

  • Develop confident competitors and increase representation
  • Have fun
  • Celebrate participation within a team environment

We are always looking at how we can develop our athletes as we  are in the best position to recognise new talent and encourage engagement

We have a number skilled coaches who develop our junior athletes in all areas of surf life saving:

  • Water – Swim, Boards, Multi-Discipline, Surfing and Team Events
  • Sand - Flags, Sprints, Distance and  Relays
  • Traditional Events - Championship Life Saver, March Past and R&R

Criteria For Surf Sports

For those wanting to begin their surf life saving and/or compete at surf carnivals (including all water, all sand and all team events), they will need to complete a Preliminary Timed Competition Swim along with an Open Water Competition Evaluation Swim.


Major Championships

For those junior athletes wishing to compete at Major Championships (includes Branch Championships, State Championships and National Championships) they also require the following criteria to be met:

  • 80% Attendance Rate with All Nippers Planned activity including Education sessions
  • 80% Participation and performance at focus events above
  • 80% Attendance at additional training sessions
  • Have the required skills to compete at Major Championships
  • Performed adequately in Club Races and other events
  • Achieved the relevant age surf education award required each season prior to 31st December 2021
