Become a Maroubra Surf Lifesaver!

Maroubra is always welcoming new members and we are supported by one of the strongest training and assessing teams in the State

We run several Bronze Medallion and Surf Rescue Certificate courses every year. Both the Bronze and SRC are blended courses including face to face teaching, practical skill development and online theory.

Bronze Medallion

The Bronze Medallion is the core award for surf life savers, and is a Certificate II in Public Safety (Aquatic Rescue). This award includes 9 vocationally recognised units of competency about teamwork, surf safety, aquatic rescue, communication, and resuscitation and emergency life support.

Pre-requisites to do the course are:

  • Be a member of the Surf Club
  • Be 15 years of age on the date of assessment
  • Swim 400m in 9 minutes or less – we will organise to time this with you.

The course will run twice a week (Wednesday evening and Sunday morning) over 8 weeks.

Bronze Medallion Course Overview

SRC (Surf Rescue Certificate)

The Surf Rescue Certificate is our entry level award for young people under 15, and for anyone interested in doing water safety. This course will provide you with the skills and knowledge related to surf awareness, aquatic rescue operations, communication skills and resuscitation.

Pre-requisites to do the course are:

  • Be a member of the Surf Club
  • Be 13 years of age on the date of assessment
  • Swim 200m in 5 minutes or less – we will organise to time this with you.

SRC Course overview

SRC to Bronze transition

Upon successful completion of a Surf Rescue Certificate members can apply for recognition of the skills and experience they have already gained and undertake a transition pathway to the Bronze Medallion.

Requirements for this course include:

  • You must be 15 years of age by the date of assessment
  • You’ve completed your SRC within the past 3 years
  • You have patrolling hours, completed skills maintenance, have confidence in your skills
  • You have completed the SRC-Bronze online training
  • You have completed Provide First Aid course (HLTAID011) and its current
